Ward 2 Endorsing Convention Moved to McNamara on Sunday, June 1

We recently shared an update about fire safety for Ward 2 and Ward 6. Both endorsing conventions were booked at locations that did not meet fire code capacity for their spaces. Both Ward endorsing conventions will now take place on Sunday, June 1, 2025. We are pleased to announce today that the Ward 2 endorsing convention will be held at McNamara Alumni Center on the University of Minnesota campus. This location is within Ward 2 at a world-class event space where many student events are held.

A number of other locations were also considered. Coffman Memorial Union was not available for either May 3 or June 1 due to other programmed events in the theater and Great Hall. Willey Hall on the West Bank was also not available because the Office of Classroom Services no longer rents to outside groups. Van Cleve Park did not have the capacity with tables and chairs in the small gymnasium. Northrop was considered, but since it is more expensive and also does not allow food in the auditorium, McNamara was the more compelling option.

McNamara is a world-class event space, with seating for 500 when configured as a presentation space. There are many dining options in the immediate neighborhood, with outdoor patio seating for periodic lunch breaks. We know that DFL neighbors will enjoy this fantastic space and have a great convention!
